River Pediatric Therapies has extensive clinical and educational experience in Asperger Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

River’s Asperger/Autism program is unique because it threads an individualized social curriculum throughout each child’s therapy to enhance the acquisition and functional use of communication, sensory processing, motor abilities, cognition, and social interactions. Children’s needs vary greatly; therefore, we customize your child's therapy to find an intervention model fit to optimize learning.

At River Pediatric Therapies, we combine Communication and Social Skills Training with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. We use several techniques aimed at curbing problem behaviors, such as interrupting, obsessions, meltdowns or angry outbursts, as well as developing skills such as recognizing feelings and coping with anxiety.

Cognitive behavioral therapy usually focuses on training a child to recognize a troublesome situation — such as a new place or an event with lots of social demands — and then select a specific learned strategy to cope with the situation.

Our therapists use real-life situations such as taking a child to order food at the food court or a crowded, noisy game room in the mall to help them cope with social & peer interaction.

At River, we also believe that parents, caregivers and siblings play a critical role in the therapy of a child with Asperger’s or Autism, and offer workshops, education, and training to caregivers and family members to create a complete support system for your child.
